Polk County has opened a new Family Resource Center in Crookston, now inside of Washington School. This marks the fourth site around the county that has now been opened, the second one in Crookston.
Family Resource Centers are designed to provide a welcoming environment for families to come into with any potential needs that could arise, from hygiene and diapers to forms and housing. “Whether it’s filling out forms, or looking for connections in the community, a service provider, housing, daycare, it’s really just a place for parents and children to feel connected,” says Victoria Ramirez, a representative for Polk County who led the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The Family Resource Center also offers a play area that serves as a way for both children and parents to make connections and build support systems, and even have an artist from Crookston High School designing a mural on the wall. Ramirez also expressed how excited she was to get the site inside of Washington School. “It’s already a family-friendly center of the community, and we already have preschoolers here and a playground, so it’s just what we needed, a family-friendly space.”
This is the fourth site that Polk County has opened, with one at the Crookston Library, one in East Grand Forks, and one in Fertile, with a new site in Fosston opening within the month.
