Lois Dianne (Haugen) Bauer, 82, of Fertile, MN and Kountze, TX died on March 17, 2025, at Valley Senior Living
Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND. Lois was born on July 29, 1942, the daughter of Helmer & Bergie (Pederson)
Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile, MN.
Lois attended Fertile High School, graduating in 1959. Following graduation, she relocated to Fargo, ND where she worked
before she met Dale Bauer. Dale and Lois were married on June 2, 1962, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile. Together,
they were blessed with three children: Daniel, Tammie and Jodi. They raised their family between Fertile, MN and Kountze,
TX where they built their homes, raised their family and had a successful beekeeping business.
Lois dedicated her life to being a loyal and devoted wife, mom, grandma and business partner. She helped grow Bauer
Honey, Bauer Bee Feed and Supply and Selby Honey into the success they were. Lois put in 35+ years of bookkeeping into
the bee business. Lois worked side by side with Dale growing the business from the start and also traveling back and forth to
MN and TX every year.
Her children and grandchildren were very important to her and Lois was very present in their lives. Lois was the mastermind
behind the family magic by holding traditions like Sunday pizza and malt night, yearly gingerbread house and cookie
decorating at Christmas, Easter Egg dying, going to garage sales every summer, hosting family reunions every 4 th of July at
the lake cabin and of course birthday celebrations and attending all their school activities. She was a thoughtful, kind, fun and
generous mom and grandma.
Lois also leaves behind a legacy of being a devoted friend. Respectful, kind and being a good listener were a few of her many
great qualities. Lois was a great hostess. Lois’s door was always open for a visit and a good cup of coffee. She was always
just a phone call away regardless of the distance. She enjoyed time with her friends for pie and coffee on Fridays, lunches and
day trips with her friends and birthday club gals.
Lois had many joys in life. Lois and Dale visited 30+ countries – her favorites being Norway and New Zealand, always
making new friends along the way. Lois was also an animal lover, especially for cats and dogs. So much so that all the
neighborhood animals knew Lois was a softy and would visit her house every night for treats in Texas. She loved spending
the winters in Texas and summers at the cabin on Maple Lake. She loved to bake, play cards and games with the grandkids,
travel and listen to music.
From an early age, Lois embraced her faith, making God the center of her life. Her days began each morning with reading the
bible and her nights ended with devotions. Her faith extended as Lois actively participated in church activities in TX and
MN, attending Sunday School, Circle, Bible study and volunteering with the youth. She was also an active community
volunteer and served on many boards within the communities in TX and MN.
Lois is survived by her children, Daniel, Tammie (Brad) Campbell, and Jodi (Darren) Straus; six grandchildren, Lindsay,
Hannah, Parker, Isaiah, Isabelle, and Dominic; one great granddaughter, Stella; siblings, Yvonne Nelson and Howard
(Elizabeth) Haugen; sister-in- law, Irmy Haugen; brother-in-law, Erman Ueland; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Alex Bauer; siblings, Luverne (Bill) Swanson, Gene (Irene)
Haugen, Myron Haugen, Beverly (David) Duckstad and Betty Ueland; and brother-in-law, Lyle Nelson.
We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming gestures of love and support shown to our family during this time.
Your thoughtfulness will always be gratefully remembered and deeply appreciated. We would also like to thank the staff of
Valley Senior Living Woodside Village for their continued support and care for our mother, we are forever grateful.
Private family services will be held.
