At approximately 8:38 pm on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to the Riverside Dam boat ramp for a paraglider that had crashed into the river.
Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a paraglider in the river. Fire crews launched a rescue boat and found the operator to be uninjured. The water rescue crew disentangled the operator and assisted him to shore.
The Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder truck, one command vehicle, two rescue boats, and 11 personnel. The Fire Department was assisted by the Grand Forks Police Department, East Grand Forks Fire Department, East Grand Forks Police Department, and Altru Ambulance.
The Grand Forks Fire Department would like to remind people to wear a life jacket when operating equipment around water.
